How my art classes work

All the art classes I offer is one-to-one classes. That means that you are the only student in the class and as such we can search and focus upon your strong points and develop your personal interests and style. Although I do have specific set classes within a curriculum for those who are interested, most of the classes are more free form, allowing us to adapt and discuss important aspects that pertain to you and your art making ...a guided journey to find your own voice and style and to gain confidence. The classes are pretty informal and will offer plenty of opportunity to just enjoy the process of making art.

You are welcome to choose a medium you are interested in such as PENCIL, CHARCOAL, WATERCOLOURS, INK, ACRYLICS, OIL PAINT and more and we can gradually explore it. We can also play with all of the mediums and with time find the one that speaks to you. I will start you out with techniques relevant to the medium before experimenting with those on a small piece of art.

Each class will also include a theoretical aspect such as the elements of art, the principals of art, composition and many more. To start you will be exposed to the elements, LINE, VALUE, COLOUR, SHAPE, VORM, TEXTURE and SPACE and gain a basic understanding of how to use them in your art. Although art theory remains only guidelines, they form the basic building blocks and will greatly improve your understanding and appreciation of all art. We will also have a look at the work of other artists and draw inspiration and information from them.

Each art lesson is two hours long and and are held in my studio. Once you have decided upon your preferred medium/mediums you will provide your own art materials.

FAQ

Got questions? The most frequently asked questions are below but please feel free to contact me with any questions ragarding the art classes, we can have a chat about your abilities and expectations and then book a class.

Do you give art to kids?

No, I do not offer art classes to children. Although I did give art classes to older kids in the past, I have decided, due to the high demand, to only concentrate upon adults who want to explore fine arts.

Do I have to wait for January to begin my classes?

No, you can start your art class anytime of the year. The art classes is run on a one-on one basis and that means you decide when you want to begin. Just get in touch and we can find and book a time that suits you.

How many people in every class?  OR What does one-on one classes mean?

There is only one person in every class...you! That means that the teacher, that's me, can give absolute undivided attention to you, the student.

But I have never created art, I don't even know what I am interested in, where to start?

That is not a problem, as long as you are interested you have a great start! Beginners start of with the basics, with exposure to mediums and techniques and evolve from there. Together we will explore your natural ability and with time find your strengths and unique style.

We will start with an 8-class beginners course that introduces you to the basic elements of art through a new medium and a famous artist every week and take it from there.

Where are the art classes held?

The art classes are held in my art studio at my home in Valhalla, Centurion. It is a light and spacious space and there is secure parking inside the property.

Do I get a certificate or other qualification by taking these art classes?

No, you do not. The art classes I offer are not part of any school or tertiary institution. The art classes are meant for your own enrichment and will offer you a sound foundation to later make art on your own.
